5 a.m. Wake UP Call !!!

Filed under: Journal — Hannah Steffens @ 11:58 am

So it all started at 5 a.m. on friday morning.  We drug ourselves out of bed, and grabbed some coffee at Starbucks with our buddy Brandon.  Then we headed up the mountians to beat the sun rise.  We were looking for good places to film a sunrise shot with Don Hampton from DH PRODUCTIONS.  It was soo AWESOME to be up in the mountains soo early, You can just feel God!  It was an amazing sunrise, and the air was hard to breathe in it was soo cold.  Mick found a few really good places to film, and so we headed home for some breakfest at our favorite restaurant called The Peak Grill. It’s mainly our favorite place because the most awesome waitress works there named Micky!  She’s super cool.  She owns a Gary Fisher, and a Cannondale.  We thought that was pretty funny. :)

Don Hampton got in on Sunday, and at 5 a.m. on Monday morning we headed up to the mountains to get our early morning wake up call.  We got to the first spot, and I crawled my way to the top to check it out.  Dang!  It was soo steep I had to hang on to roots to get down.  I almost wish I wouldn’t have looked at it.  I got a little nervous for Mick.  But we got all set up. Don with his video camera, and I was shooting stills. Mick gave us a yell to warn us he was ready, and I said prayer for him, and down he came. He cleaned the line just perfect. I was thinking how crazy of a way to wake up this is, but also how cool it is. I got some really good photos with that light!  You might see them in some magazines I hope.  He hit that spot up a few more times, then we were off to the next one.

This one really scared me alot!  It was too much for me, but I still got to shoot some more photos.  I was shaking soo bad as I watched my husband lower his bike into the role in.  It was soo steep and loose, that he could not start from the very top. So he had to hang his bike from some roots, and slide into the place where he would role in.  It’s scary when the role in is drop in.  There was no room for mistakes.

But once again, he pulled it off perfectly.  He was shaking pretty bad when he got to the bottom too! :)   He did it a few more times though.

We did a lot more shooting that day, and it was all successful.  But now there are reports of a blizzard moving in, so we can’t go hit any dirt jumps today.  That was a bummer, but I’ll just train harder for next time.  So we are going to chill out today, and put some new bikes together, and get ready for the storm to pass.

I will have some photos of today posted hopefully soon, so keep checking back!  Thanks for all your support, and I really hope you are all well!  It’s fun as we get close to Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I love this time of year.  The weather makes it kind of hard to ride, but our indoor skatepark just opened back up again!  So we will be there a lot!

We will be traveling with a group called MXers 4 JESUS most of November.  So I will keep you posted on that!  Looking forward to next time!  Have an Awesome Day!!!

Austria!!!

Filed under: Journal — Hannah Steffens @ 3:47 am

Hey Everyone!!!

I just want to say, thanks soo much for your incouraging comments!!!  They inspire me a lot! So thank you all soo much!!!

We are in Sludming(i am sure i spelled it wrong) Austria at the moment, and I have to say, this is probably the most beautiful place I have seen yet on our travels! We saw the most amazing castle on the way here!  I love that time in history!

Mick said the coarse is the same as last year pretty much, and same for the 4-X.  He feels pretty good, but I think everyone is ready for a break.  It’s been 7 weeks, and we are both ready to get settled in one place and have a routine and training schedules.  But it has been lots of fun!  No regrets!

It’s hard to fill everyone in, because I always think of funny and cool things to share, then when I finally get the chance to share them, I get all flustered :)   I’m sure most of you can relate!

I really hope all of you are well, and keep in your prayers Steve Irwins family and friends.  He was the Crocodile hunter we all saw on T.V.  He was killed on Monday while filming.  It was an accident, but my heart goes out to his family.  He was an amazing man!

Thanks Everyone once again for checking in, and thanks for your support and encouragement!  Be Blessed!!!

WORLD CUP!

Filed under: Journal — Hannah Steffens @ 8:16 pm

Hey Everyone!

So, we have been in New Zealand for the last week, and it has been amazing!  It was cold and rainy for the whole week, but tha did not stop the Hannah’s!

Tracy Hannah took home the World Champion Title for Junior women, and Mick Hannah placed 6th in the Elite Pro men!  That is the highest Mick has ever placed at the World Championships, and it’s going to keep getting higher!!! :)

My team mates also did well in Cross Country.  Willow placed 17th, and Heather placed 22nd.  Not bad ladies.  Treavor had a mechanical, but he would have done well too.  Congrats team!

So, I am in the New Zealand airport waiting for our next fllight.  I’m ready to move on!  Rotarua was a beautiful place with lots of very kind people.  I highly recommend it for a visit. :)

The big highlight of our last day there, was that we got to race “sprint” buggies!  It was so awesome!  These buggies are more made for going super fast in a streight line, so it made for some crazy driving on the oval track!  It was deffinently some really good fun!  It fed my need for racing cars at the moment! :)

Ok, well I better go.  I hope this letter finds all of you blessed and well!  Until next time, keep it positive!!!

Hey Everyone!

I’m sorry it has been soo long since I wrote.   We have been soo busy!  Traveling like crazy at the moment, but it’s been wonderful!

Life is great, Marriage is AWESOME, Riding is fun, God is good, our families are well, we are blessed!

We are in Australia at the moment hanging out with the fam, and the weather is perfect over here.  It’s winter for them right now, but it’s like summer for me!  I love it!  It’s been fun hanging out with everyone again.

Tracey Hannah is doing very well in the NORBA series.  If she wins tomorrow, she will be the NORBA Champion!  We are super proud of her!

Crankworx was a blast!  2 weeks of training at Whistler couldn’t have been funner.  I spent a lot of time getting to work with all the campers in the fome pit they just built.  I have to say that was the most fun I’ve ever had teaching and riding with campers before!  It reminds me of why I love to ride.  Helping people is the best part of it! These kids were great!  They learned soo fast.  3 kids learned backflips, and there were soo many other kids learning tricks, I can’t even keep track.  I got to work on a few things too.  Well, I atleast got to touch things up I guess you could say!

Thanks Whistler for giving me the opportunity to train and work with the young riders! It was a blessing!!! :)

Mick got 3rd in the Crankworx mt. cross!  It was such a good race!  The best one I’ve watched yet!  It was soo close! I’m very proud of him for that!

We are off to New Zeland next for the Championships!  Keep us in your prayers!  I know Mick can do it!  Thanks for all your support!

I have to say, marriage is the funnest thing ever!  It’s been 5 months, and it just keeps getting better!

Have a great day everyone, and I will try not to let it go soo long till next time!

AUTO CROSS!!!

Filed under: Journal — Hannah Steffens @ 11:49 am

I had one of the most amazing days on Saturday the 23rd. Oh man was it Awesome! :)

Here is how it all happened.

On Friday, I was sitting at Starbucks having a devotional time, and this 1963 Cobra comes pulling up to the parking lot! After wiping the drule away from my mouth, I decided I wanted to let him know how awesom his car was. What was cool about that, is I don’t usually tell people how nice there cars are, because they already know it. But this guy seemed different! He did’nt have it just to make a statement, or to look cool, but he was truly enjoying his car! I could tell he deserved his car! He worked for his car! And I felt like the Lord wanted me to tell him his car was AMAZING!!!

So when he walked out of Starbucks, I told him how amazing his car was. We introduced ourselfs. His name is John Burk, and he is a retired pilot who still loves to go fast! Then we got to talking about how he built his Cobra, and then we just kept talking about cars and racing and motorcycles and mt. bikes for quite a while. It was a fun time! Tom taught me a lot about cars in that little bit of time! It was Awesome! He is deffinently on top of that kind of stuff!

Tom let me know of Corvette auto cross race happening on saturday. So I decided nothing was stopping me from going to that event. I called up my buddy Jeremy, and we got up at 6:30 am, and hit the road at 7.

It took us a bit to find the place, because it was held at a State Patrol Training Facility out in the middle of nowhere. The state patrol officers we ran into did’nt even know how to tell us to get there. It was pretty funny.
But finally we found it, and wow, I have never seen soo many corvettes in one place. It was quite cool! :)

I found Tom, and he introduced us to his buddy John! John is currently the Auto Cross National Champion! Oh man, his driving is smoother then a babies bottom. :) Tom got me the chance of a life time. I was going to get to ride with Jon on all of his race runs. I was soo excited I could hardly contain myself :)

I put on Tom’s helmet, and we were off! Jon’s car is a Z06 with 540hp. It’s an amazing car! But it’s not soo much the car that wins, it’s the driver! Jon taught me soo much that day about racing, so now when I start racing, I can carry into my driving what I saw in Jons driving!

They have no idea what that did inside me that day, but I know they will see it come out soon! :)

I later found out that John was also the 2003 rookie of the year at the PIKES PEAK HILL CLIMB. John finished the race on 3 wheels! That’s amazing, especially if you’ve ever watched that race on tv, or live.

So a special thanks to John and Tom, for giving me the time of day, and fanning that flame the Lord put in me to race cars! It’s a raging fire now!!! THANK YOU!!!

Well, I will have pictures posted of that day as soon as possible. But keep checking back for more!

Have a Wonderful week you guys, and I will be talking to you soon!!!

Pikes Peak!!!

Filed under: Journal — Hannah Steffens @ 12:18 am

Hey Everyone!

How are Ya?

So yesterday, Mick and I, and our buddy Jeremy all loaded up in our new truck, and headed to Pikes Peak to meet up with some of our riding buddies for a 2 hour long epic ride down Pikes Peak. :)

Home of the famous Pikes Peak Hill Climb. I have to say, that is one of the most amazing roads I have ever seen! I can’t wait to watch the pros race up that road!!! :)

Anyways, once we reached the summit, we all began to feel a little light headed from the lack of oxygen. Not many people get the chance to desent from 14,000 ft. It was quite the experience.

The first 20 min. of the course is hardly rideable. Not only are there some crazy tight switch backs, but you are also dodging hikers. Mick and I were both pretty sure I broke my pinky finger after I clipped a boulder on one of the switch backs. It hurt pretty darn bad, but not bad enough to give up.

The trail is gnarly, and one of the best Mick says he has ever been on. Great for training that’s for sure. I had a really hard time with it at first, because I have been injured and then I got the flu pretty bad. So that was my first time really pushing it in the last few months. But, when it was all said and done, It was well worth the pain and work. I will deffinently do it again! :)

Micks little sister Tracey Hannah will be staying over here for a few weeks, so we are looking forward to that.

So, keep checkin back for more adventures brought to you by the Hannah’s! :)

Have a Great Day Everyone!!!

TO EUROPE AND BACK AGAIN!!!

Filed under: Journal — Hannah Steffens @ 10:14 pm

Hey Everyone!
Sorry it’s been soo long since I have posted any news. Mick and I are just working on settling back into home. :)
We are both pretty exhausted, but it’s nice to have each other!
The trip went very well! The first place we stopped at was Vigo, Spain! The first World Cup Down Hill of the year, so you can imagine the excitement of everyone.
Not only was it the first race of the year, but it was my first World Cup race, not to mention my first pro race. It was quite intimidating at first, because I have hardly been riding down hill, and it was my second race in three years! But once I got all suited up, and got on the course, I had a blast!!! Blast… that’s kind of a funny word. Anyways, it was a lot of fun, and a great learning experience. At the end, I came in 20th. Which is not what I wanted, but I came down safe, and had a very good time!!!
The best part of that race, was watching Mick cross the finish line with the fastest time!!! Everyone was screaming with excitement!!! Everyone knew he deserved it!!! Especially me! :)

There were soo many things in the past that held Mick back from becoming the Champion that is in his heart, but not any more. Everything in his life is new this year, and I believe it is a show to us that God is doing something new and better. Our God is a God of second chances, and third chances, and fourth chances….etc. etc. etc. He is just a Good God!!!
It is soo AMAZING to watch someone who is a Champion at heart finally become that Champion in what they love to do! :)
The next place we went was in Portugal! It was a small town called Lousa! Man was this place cool!!! We met some really cool local riders and went out to eat with the local mt. bike club. They were so hospitable and kind to us, and I just want to say thanks! It was a very good time.
After Lousa, we headed for Lisboa, Portugal for the Lisboa Downtown Race. This place was soo much fun! It was a race down the highest stairs in Lousa. It was soo slick, and sometimes on your practice runs, they would have to jump in front of you to stop you because they could not stop the traffic in time. On my race run, 3 pedestrians ran in front of me. It was Crazy. People would be trying to touch you while you passed them on the course. It was like you were a famous person or something! It was pretty cool! I got 11th there.
That race was my last event on that trip. I messed up some stuff on my bike that wouldn’t allow me to keep riding. But that’s ok, because I accomplished a lot while I was there, and now I would get to be there 100% for Mick! :) Which I always enjoy!!!

Germany was our next stop. We met up with the CUT freeriders, and that was a lot of fun. Germany was pretty cold and rainy though. Mick and I mostly rested up, and enjoyed the ride. They did a small comp at a local Germany National race. I ended up getting to be one of the judges, which was pretty fun. It was a great experience!

Skipping a few days, we were now on a “SUPERFAST FERRY” cause they’re super fast. :) That is where I got to writ my last letter to you all.
It was a little hard not to feel sick on that thing, but with a little mind control, and the distraction of watching an old couple get down on the dance floor, I was able to enjoy the ocean drive. :)

Scotland. A very beautiful place, and a very cold place. The people there are soo nice though! That always makes your stay much nicer. We stayed in a hotel called the HIGHLAND HOTEL, which is a very nice place. Where we were staying, there are soo many stairs it’s crazy! So the first day, I went and ran stairs for 45 min. I thought I was going to hurl…….after I passed out. :) But, I held it out, and it became my daily ritual…..well, at least until it started to hurt my knees. That’s when I discovered they had a gym there. Then I became a foreign gym rat. :) I love working out, and I haven’t hardly been able to. So any chance I get, I am in.

Mick did well during his practice runs, but had a crash in his race run. It looked like it was a harsh one too. He was pretty warn out from all the traveling between races, and this course is super gnarly. So it didn’t end up being the best race for him, but that’s ok. Everyone has their courses. I’m still proud of his efforts. He is an amazing rider, and all around athlete! :)

So now, it was time for me to head home! I had an big event I was invited to back home, called the TEVA MOUNTAIN GAMES. I had been nominated for female mt. biker of the year, and I was excited to get the chance to be a part of history. These awards are like the Grammies of Extreme Sports. So it’s quite the honor to be nominated for them. To top it off, my mom and dad and sister were all going to get to come and be a part of this exciting night. I was looking very forward to getting dressed all up with my sister, and hanging out with my family.

Mick had to be at a World Cup Race in Germany, or else I know he would have been there with me. But that’s ok, I wanted to be there for him just as much!

Now we are both home, and recovering from that month long journey! Exciting! Yes! But it’s soo good to be home. I’m sorry it took soo long to write to you all. I have not been feeling soo good, and I just took some time with my husband to recuperate. So thanks for being soo patient and checking back in once in a while. I feel much better now.

So you all have an Awesome Time!!! Remember to keep the rubber side down!!! Mick says G’Day! :)

A CHAMPION IS BORN!!!

Filed under: Journal — Hannah Steffens @ 7:41 pm

That Champion is my sister Molly!

This last weekend, my sister Molly stepped out and took the first step to a long time dream of hers.

She stepped into the ring! That’s right, a boxing ring! Actually this time, the ring was an ultimate fighting ring. My sister and the girl she fought were the only females in the whole event. It was AMAZING!!! They were the best fight of the night!

My sister inspired me soo much as I watched who she used to be, shed off, and a whole new amazing, beautiful, confident women stepped out to lay hold of a dream. She will never be the same! People change soo much when they go after their dreams! It’s a wonderful thing!!! Like a child being born! It’s a new thing!

There is nothing more amazing then to watch the making of a champion! Everyone has a dream that is fed by a desire. Only those who fallow that desire will ever become who they have always wanted to be. And hopefully that desire is to be a champion! Whatever you do! Even in your job!

Just before the fight begins, one by one the fighters are escorted out to the ring by there coaches. When Molly’s competitor walked out, she was prancing, and acting out that of a super star. It was like her show of pride. She wanted to look tough.

When my sister walked out, she walked with her head looking down, and extreme focus in her eyes. She never pranced like a wild horse, or even tried to look tough. She had a quiet confidence.

For years now, Molly has always loved boxing with me! I used to want to fight before I got into bikes! I know some people think it is wrong, especially for girls, but no one can understand the desire of ones own heart! People told me I should’nt be riding a bike. But you know what, you loose a part of yourself you can never get back if you don’t fallow your dreams. Atleast try them out. Who knows, it may lead you into something even greater.

I thought skiing was the be all end all for me. Boy was I wrong! I always said I would never ride a bike, and look at me now!

People who trash talk other people for following their hearts desire, are only jealous. They may use every reason in “their book” to put you down, but don’t let them steel your heart. Who are “they” anyway?!!!

NEVER LET THE ODDS KEEP YOU FROM DOING WHAT YOU KNOW IN YOUR HEART YOU WERE BORN TO DO!!!

My sister went against all odds, and voices that told her not to. And I have to say, I am soo proud of her for following her heart! She won that fight, and she will win many many more. Not just in the ring, but in life! Why? Because she’s tasted victory, and now she craves it!

I’m soo proud of you Molly!!! :)

That’s why I love the Bible. It’s all about VICTORY!!!

Roof Rack No No!!!

Filed under: Journal — Hannah Steffens @ 9:58 pm

Whelp,
I did the ultimate roof rack no no.

I ran our bikes into one of those poles that shows you your cars clearance. :) Ooops!

We were taking my Mother-in-law to the airport to fly home, and so I was in full airport mode. For any of you who fly a lot, you know what I am talking about. :)

It did’nt brake the bikes, just the rack. It ripped the bikes out of the rack, but they did’nt fall off the car. I was pretty impressed that the racks did’nt get really messed up. They pretty much released the bikes, which was a very very good thing. :)

I have always hesitated with roof racks for just that reason. So if you have a roof rack, just do’nt forget. :) If your worried about it, just get Yakima. They release! :)

Well, I hope your all going very good today, and your all well!!! I just wanted to share my little blooper with you all, because it’s just too………funny, and stupid! :) Hopefully my experience will keep you reminded!
