Over The Bars by:sir flip a lot!

Hey guys!

Hope everyones holidays went very well! Mine went Awesome! I’m not sure where they went, but they are not here anymore.

So, if some of you have not seen EARTHED 2, you will not know what I am talking about, so you better go buy it and see what I am talking about. Watch Mick Hannah’s section, and check out all the stunts. Most of the obstacles he rides off of in the movie, are not done the justice. We went down the trail the other day, and OOOHHHH MAN! The drops are scary and huge, one wrong tweek, and your going to be tweeked for a week or so. The lines are rediculously technical. It’s no hucking on these lines. It’s do right the first time, or just don’t do it. IT’S GREAT!!! Cole Bangart is up visiting us, and he and Mick cleaned the place up. It was soo AWESOME to see it up close and personal. They are both amazing riders! Trace did a drop at the beginning of the trail that is not on the video, but it was her first time trying, and she did excellent! It was a very cool day!

There was this lonely little/big rock that Mick climed on top of, and had us hand him his bike. He knows I like steep stuff, so he had me climb up and look at it as he rode off. I climbed up shaking some, with no intensions of riding off this rock, but he handed me my bike, and I didn’t want to back down now. He crawled up very carefully, one wrong twich, and we would both fall off the rock. He counted me down, and I rode off. It took a couple of countdowns, but I did it! It was cool!

When we got to the bottom, we both felt a little sick, so we decided to let David (micks dad) and Darrel (coals dad) take our bikes and ride down. We were using two vehicles to shuttle the run, so I got in the rent-a-car, and Mick drove his dads car and trailer. It was 4 wheel drifting the whole way to the bottom. The roads here are Awesome!!! I have always loved driving passes, and so this was a very good day for me! :) I would love to someday race some type of cars! Rally would be sweet!!!

Mick and I went out to hit some jumps for a few hours, then I was going to head to the gym. When we got to the jumps, it started to blow really hard. I had a bailing accident the other day, so I wasn’t too keen on having to bail again. So we tried to find some new jumps hidden in the trees somewhere. They could have been anywhere, but with Micks mountain man gift, we found them in a short time. They were fairly large BMX jumps. Mick cleaned them up, but I think I will practice a bit longer before I go for them. :)

I was ready to go to the gym. Everybody else was getting ready to go ride a track called Slipperies. I had found out earlier that no body ever comes down there first time on this track without wrecking a few times. I was pretty tired, and figured lifting tired would be better then riding rough dh course tired. Well, so much for that sound judgement. It flew out the window when I found out the gym was closed, and I didn’t want to watch everyone else go have all the fun!

Mmmmmmmm………they weren’t kidding. Only once have I ever been sent over my bars that many times. It was rediculous. I will say and stand on the grounds that Slipperies IS the hardest most tech/slick course you will ever ride in your lifes. You have to go soo slow, and if it is wet at all, YOU ARE OVER! :) If you keep picking up speed when you lock up your brakes, you might as well lay it over. Then to top it off, Mick, Cole, and Darrel all went up for a whole day, and put in the longest, slickest, most tech rock garden ever. Once your in, your in. There is no exscaping . It is surrounded by trees. It’s hard to walk up without falling a few times. Sooooooo…….. it’s a cool trail. The absolute most Credible part to this whole story, is that after we went and attempted to dirt jump, Mick decided he wanted to try it on his hard tail. So, I dropped him off, and sure enough, he beat me to the bottom, with only dabbing twice on his way down. I was in AWE after I rode the trial. The day before, they couldn’t even ride it without wrecking on there down hill bikes. How insane is that!!!? That is a VERY VERY GIFTED SOLID RIDER!!! I will forever be impressed by that hard tail action! :)

We went to the movies the other night to see fun with dick and jane, and I ended up spewing my soda on the group of people in front of me………….quite embarressing, I couldn’t stop laughing though. But it was the funniest movie I have seen in a while.

Well, that is all of my story for now. Stay tuned for more. It’s on ly going to get better and better, and better!
RIDE’N ON AND ON!!!

  1. Hey Hannah, dont know if you reply to this but after reading the bit in your interview in Outside about starting a faith based team of riders I was very excited. I ride with several other christian guys who rip and we thought it was an excellent idea. If you are serius about this I would love to hear any of your ideas. Cheers.

  6. Hello my name is ryan. I found out about this amazing gifted strong person today. Im new to mountain biking. Last summer here in michigan I was a little overweight. I weighed 185. I didnt like how i felt so I started going to weight watchers. yeah I lost weight very slowly then something hit me. hmmm what about that giant yukon hardtail that i bought 6 years ago at the bikeshop. I thought hey mabey this will help. It cost me 600 dollars back then im 23 almost 24 now. I went riding around the neighborhoods between 40 and 60 miles a day. the weight flew off im at my goal weight I weigh 140. yeah i know im a little guy. so i lost 45 pounds. but through all that I found something so special. I loved it to death! Im addicted. but those streets got boring. I went to the bikeshop everyday and talked to people. All I heard them talk about all day long was the mountain bike trails around there. i soon got interested so I went by myself (not a good idea) to a trail here in michigan called stoney creek. Luckily i met this guy he was 63! he had a fisher sugar. He was faster then everyone on those trails and for some reason hes been letting me ride with him still up till now. I bought a new mountain bike in october. I bought a trek fuel ex 7. I love it! I know your a fisher fan. it was between that bike and a cake and I went riding at a demo with the exact bike so thats what i picked. I love the trails. It can be scary sometimes but im over that :) I dont mind falling a couple times or getting a little bloody haha its just my technique isnt so great and neither is my spelling by the way haha. my sharp turns suck. ive been working on it a lot. I go on group rides not as many now cause its the winter. I get all kinds of tips from people. I belong to a site called www.mmba.org. check it out its the michigan mountain biking association. My main love is music ive been playing and writing guitar music since I was 15. and my second is biking. as depressing as it might sound im having some health issues (not from biking) that is stopping me from going all out. im workin on fixing this so i can be on full throttle biking and music. Your the only biker that i know that is well known like i said i found out about you today at the bikeshop. I was looking at your bio and the cool jumps in your picture area. its only been half a day and already i have found someone in this hobby of mine to look up to. your awesome. I to wish there were more female bikers around here it would be fun to communicate with people from both male and female because everyone has there own way of doing things and im wondering about how you look at all this and your feelings about biking and technique. I know im not doing anything as extreme as you but im hoping I can get in to it as soon as possible for it. im pumped haha. I have fallen numerous times as everyone does when they start out. nothing broken yet. the worst one was when i was at stoney and I hit a root while on my front brake and flew over the bike and luckily i was able to get un clipped and i fell down the hill and hit a tree. but heres the thing thank goodness for that tree because if it wasnt there I would of been in the river haha. got a couple scars on my left knee only one that i probably should of gotten stiches for but i didnt but its ok. from what i hear you seem to be all famous and stuff in biking so i would understand if you cant communicate with me in email. it would just be nice to learn some things from someone i look up to. I dont look up to many people as much as i should. I look up to my dad because he knows so much about music considering hes a pianist and another love of mine is art and shakespeare I know might sound kind of corny but thats what i like. im listening to this one band right now called muse they sound a lot like radiohead. I listen to everything if it has good guitar music in it i listen to it. anything from classical jazz to rock and metal. everything! well i will stop now im sure your busy and getting tired of reading this. but if you want to email me you can at sound135@comcast.net or my aim is aboyandhisguitar well keep up the good work. YOU ROCK! ryan…
